Denny's Story – ”When word resonated throughout our family, friends and community, on Oct. 27, 2006, that Denny was gone--dead from an accidental heroin overdose--the words we heard over and over again were, “Oh my God…if it could happen to you, it could happen to anyone! How could this be true?” It didn’t make sense. We were a good family! Denny was a great kid! But life had turned into a nightmare. ”. Read the whole story…
Guardian Angels – ”I never believed in guardian angels – until March 2007. That’s when my world as I knew it fell apart. Until then, I thought I could handle anything. But weird things were happening under my nose, things I would never have imagined. In retrospect, I wish I had the knowledge I have now without the first-hand experience. I encourage anyone reading these words to have the courage to do now, for your loved one, what I couldn’t do then: take the “tough love” approach to addiction.”. Read the whole story…
Ryan's Story – ”How can a parent describe what it’s like to lose a child? My son – a normal kid, from a normal family, living a fairly normal life – like so many addicts, made a life changing decision to try drugs. He didn’t choose to be an addict, but it happened, and in a matter of 12 to 18 months he changed in unimaginable ways. From the son who was my friend and fishing buddy, to one who pawned my power tools…from a son with whom I shared a secret handshake, to one who threatened me with physical violence”. A Mom – “My son graduated in June 2006 from Fraser High School. He is a recovering heroin addict. I am asking you to open your mind and be aware of the heroin problem that is affecting our kids. I want kids and parents to know this is not a recreational drug they can try once and stop. It is out there, it’s hard to escape, and all are vulnerable”. Read the whole story…

A Mom – ”My daughter is an amazing child and everyone—teachers, family and friends—thought she was so self-assured. She had been accepted to every major university she applied to and was maintaining an incredible grade point average, was involved in competitive cheerleading and was the pride of my life. Two weeks before our life came crumbling down, I attended parent-teacher conferences, [she was a senior,] and I left there with a sense of pride that only a mother can feel. I thought we had made it through the high school years and life couldn't be better”. Read the whole story…
Anonymous – ”I’m sure my story is like many of yours. I was a single mom for over 14 years; I put myself through school and had a great job. I have three children and gave them what my limited income could provide. My youngest son was an above-average talented honor roll student, a bright kid who wanted to become a Marine when he grew up. I had recently gotten married; we bought a house and were living the American dream with my 17-year-old son. With the two older ones now on their own, I was no stranger to raising teenagers”.
